Shiyani has a massive repertoire of songs built up through 30 years of music-making with ears close to the ground: deep Zulu proverbs meet with robust social commentary, all put to the relentlessly driving but intricate maskanda guitar beats. With a fine debut CD release ('Introducing Shiyani Ngcobo' WMN) leading to a well-received 2005 Uk-wide tour with his 4-piece roots band, preparations are under way for a welcome return visit.)
