Aziza Brahim & Yayabo Latin Jazz
A fascinating meeting of musical cultures, where the brilliant, penetrating singing of outstanding Sahara Republic exile Aziza Brahim is woven into the dynamic ensemble sound of Spanish/Colombian latin dance groove specialists Yayabo. Away from the Saharan refugee camps, Aziza spent seven years in Cuba before settling in Spain to begin a fruitful collaboration with Yayabo. Her vocal and compositional skills touch as much on her Berber ancestry as on the muscular Afro-Cuban repertoire of rumba and guaracha, and sit comfortably with vintage Colombian cumbia, whilst the intense percussion interplay between Cuban congas, Berber traditional tabal drum and Caribbean bongos boldly explores new rhythmic territory. A band (and an imminent 1st Cd release) to watch out for!

Batanai Marimba
'Rivetingly visual, gloriously musical, and entirely danceable' (Modal) and driven by a pulsating mix of deep Shona and Zulu NuRoots sounds riding on fat loping traditional marimba beats, Batanai (Unite) celebrate their 10th creative year of recording & Uk-wide touring, and look forward to a follow-up CD release to their definitive album Matumba Matumba! Widely-known, and well-loved on the UK festival & concert circuit and through numerous BBC broadcasts over the years, Batanai’s bandleader Wedzerai never stands still for long. He currently leads an outstanding pan-African roots band uniquely mixing resonant call & response vocals with the complex cyclic momentum set up by some powerful interplay between marimbas, guitars, and a distinctive trio of inspired percussionists from Zimbabwe, Ghana & Senegal…...‘the music is trancey and uplifting with the rhythms of the kalimba and marimba beating at its heart’ (Jamie Renton: fRoots)

Charanga Del Norte
'Superb UK-based salsa and charanga band' (Songlines)
A groundbreaking project set up in 1998 by Yorkshire-based flautist-bandleader Sue Miller with the aim of recording & performing contemporary arrangements and compositions in the Cuban Charanga style. The band consists of flute, violins, viola, electric bass, piano, coro singers, timbales, congas and güiro. In Charanga the flute improvises over pulsating rhythms from the string section, mesmeric montunos from the piano, synchronised coros, tripping bass and driving percussion. Their most recent national tour included an outstanding set at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall supporting Buena Vista virtuoso Eliades Ochoa.
'Inviting supporting acts to perform with legendary Cuban artists involved in the Buena Vista Social Club project is no easy matter, finding an outfit in the UK that can hold its own with a well informed audience makes the task all the more difficult, so its lucky we have Charanga Del Norte not only in the UK but within 60 miles of the venue. Bridgewater Hall has a reputation for authentic, first class music and Charanga made the grade.' (CEO, Bridgewater Hall).

Conjunto Sabroso
Immensely popular nine-piece salsa band playing brassy full-on New York-style Latin dance grooves drawn from the popular Cuban & Puerto-Rican 'conjunto' repertoire. Featuring a classic piano/bass/tres/conga/timbales rhythm section and a blistering three-trumpet horn attack, Sabroso are led from the front by outstanding Colombian singer Luz Elena Caicedo, and showcase the distinctive arrangements of renowned Venezuelan percussionist Wilmer Sifontes. Tours to China, Spain and now Kenya, have reinforced the band's international reputation, whilst stage appearances backing an expanding roster of USA-based salsa stars such as Willie Gonzales, Henri Fiol & Adalberto Santiago confirm Sabroso's authentic swing and dynamic presence on the Latin circuit.
