For their tour shows, Rumba Morena will double-bill with Manchester’s vibrant all-women contemporary dance group AfroCats, in a Black History Month programme inspired by Bi-Centenary celebrations of the Abolition of Slavery. | Focus On…one of our monthly live world music series..NuRootsLive! @ The Castle.. | ||
| Theatre and music venue The Castle, Wellingborough, has hosted our monthly programme of the best of current roots dance bands in performance for the last decade. Originally branded as ‘Deep Roots’, this pioneering live world music series kicked off in 1996 with Virginia Mukwesha’s Jiti Dance Express from Zimbabwe, and has since continued to feature the best of both upcoming and world famous roots bands…sharing a workshop with the audience, then onstage playing til the curfew. The list of bands we’ve programmed at this wonderful Midlands venue is by now extensive, but a few memorable names include Kathryn Tickell, Bollywood Brass Band, Chartwell Dutiro’s Spirit Talk Mbira, Ifang Bondi, Stella Chiweshe’s Earthquakes, Batanai Marimba, African Jazz Pioneers, Zubop…and many, many more. These days, Deep Roots have surfaced, to become NuRootsLive!, and some of the workshops and performances have become outreach ventures,bringing some amazing international personalities, instruments, sounds and dances to local communities… For details of this Autumn’s Castle programme just follow the link below. If you think you’d like Konimusic to programme a world music series at your venue, then please get in touch with us.. www.thecastle.org.uk/home/ |

| Konimusic development projects.. | ||
| Here’s a couple of interesting things we’re currently working on…one for the musicians and promoters, the other for venue & events marketing people looking for ways to boost and diversify those sometimes elusive audiences for world music gigs…………………. PLANET DIDJ & THE SABARISTAS… With an impressive new CD ‘Soul of the Didgeridoo’ (ARC) out right now, the internationally acclaimed didgeridoo master Michael Edwards starts an innovative rehearsing, touring & recording collaboration with us. Provisionally titled ‘Planet Didj & The Sabaristas’ Michael will be working on completely new material with a small team of outstanding young Senegalese percussionists (sabar-players…hence ‘The Sabaristas’…)The new project makes much of putting the unique percussive didge-blowing technique used by the Yolngu players of NE Arnhem Land into the mix with the crackling mbalax rhythms of Senegal…Exciting stuff! ..Watch this space! Early Enquiries Welcome………….a DIGITAL MARKETING TOOLKIT is the other thing we’ve currently got onstream…created through a series of consultations with the audience development initiative MAXIMISE, an Arts Council England funded project which aims to develop audiences for black and minority ethnic work in the mainstream. We hope pretty soon to be able to offer this DIGI-TOOLKIT as a plug-in to venues’ & promoters’ own websites, to enhance (or maybe supercede..?) more traditional print & press marketing of our NuRootsLive! tour productions. Content is still being developed, but expect podcasts, blogs & streamed sound and video to be up there… …meanwhile here’s a link to one of Michael Edwards eerie didji tracks .. www.konimusic.co.uk/data/images/mp3s/MIKE_EDWARDS.mp3 |
